Retro frame + new components.. yes or no?

I have a 2000 azonic ds and have recently gone for the resto mod approach. I.e new parts old frame. I got this azonic ds1 brand new in 2000 I was heavily into dh and dual slalom as was my dad, so he built me a hardcore hard tail. It eventually ended up getting used for commuting to work and then eventually got left in my dads friend's workshop for 15 years. I thought it was long gone until my dad (the absolute legend)got it back. So over lockdown I rebuilt it. Like I always dreamed of bit never thought I would. It has some budget parts for now like the brakes and the forks but I wanted to completely change the bike from old skool to new. I got some

I am always VERY upset and butthurt too when I see good ol retro bikes with shaite modern components :-D

That work far better than the old components. I don't agree. It's like keeping sealed beam headlights on a classic car. They are period correct but they are crap. i get the purest ideal but In practice they are old for a reason.
