Nike Roubaix

I considered a number of options including the Quoc Pham but in the end bought a pair of Nike Roubaix, seem OK, they have a velcro fixing, the fit is on the small side but they slide into conventional quills and toe clips nicely and as they are all black leather look the part with an old steel bike if you don't look too closely.

these old adidas eddy merckx were the business - i remember trying them for the first time and being AMAZED at how easily those weird looking cleats slotted into the back of the pedal and i was OFF!!

simple pleasures back in those days....

I used to wear Arturo shoes when I started cycling, and amazingly they're still available:

although I remember mine were more sleek looking, the pic on their website looks quite clunky. Another actual (not "retro") traditional touring shoe is:

Both are not racing shoes, they go better with plus fours and woolly jumpers.

sidi cyclesport with white tennis socks over the top - that gave the kind of cool look like you were a top amateur in the manchester wheelers or EVEN a PRO like phil!!!

:D

They look like bootees. Of the top of my head, I think Anderson used to wear Le Coq Sportif shoes, which had a white triangle by the ankle.

Here's a pic of Hinault with the 'white socks over shoes' look.
