Retro cars, which is older, your bike or your 4 wheels?

Oldest car... '79

Bike... '89

Used to be closer than that but the oldest bikes were sold to fund my house :(

That's a nice Light-Weight, I used to have a 1969 2A Light-Weight, that still had the head-lamps in the grille!!! (no-one had butchered it by adding light-boxes onto the wings)
It was only 4 years younger than me!! (owned circa 95-97)

Replaced with a 'rocket-ship' 110Tdi (a '300' Hard-Top)...... well, in comparison to the 2 & 1/4petrol, that Tdi was like USS Voyager!!!

Then;

90 CSW (genuine factory build V8 - no, not a 50th)
Discovery 50th Anniversary
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage' (even when I had the 2A, I wanted a 110CSW)

But to this day, I regret never having a 'proper' Range Rover, be it a very early 2-door, or a 300Tdi/manual 'soft-dash'

Or, a 101FC :D

Oh lovely air portables, nearly as much kudos as the Series One.

I had as my first car a 1955 86 inch soft top which I built from a wreck with frost damaged engine and broken chassis and let's not forget the bulkhead, it took me three years, but it was ready for when I passed my test and prior to I knew little about mechanics and definitely not welding and aluminium body repair.

It got sold on in '99 and as far as I know it is still on the road, the new owner shoehorning in a ford V6 to give it that little bit more oomph than the 1997cc side valve had. I used to pass it on the M40 in my then latest rolling restoration, a 1977 VW Devon Moon raker. I tend to keep my cars a long time and have had in 27 years of driving I have only had five cars I have owned.

Oh and er only three mountain bikes, two Saracens and a GT in twenty years of using bona fide off road bikes, aka the mountain bike although my cycling history goes back to when the stabilisers came off my Tomahawk and a succession of road racing style bikes I smashed on trails.

My favourite cars I have had so far have been my '89 an '91 VW golf GTIs from my favourite MTB era.

However I got a bit sick of poor motorway manners and lack of creature comforts so I now run a modern car.

If I had an excuse for multiple cars I'd have an '88 small bumper Mk2 golf valver, a Series 3 Landrover LWB with canopy and a '99 996.

Bikes are in my signature, cars are a 1992 Pajero V6 and a 1997 Fiat Barchetta, so both older than most of my bikes.

A good friend of mine still has a 1956 86" that he bouight when he was 16.
He's only a couple of months yonger than me, & we're both 46!!!, so you see how long he's had it!!

It's had a variety of engines from original, to a (SD1 'S') V8, to a Perkins diesel, & possibly now has a 200Tdi??

It was also his 'daily driver' for a few years, well... shared duties with an Austin Gipsy!
