Restoring my first proper bike

My tip is take loads of pics of the bike - and 'exploded' shots of the various parts that you strip down - for reference... also nice to look at in a few months/years time when you're enjoying your shiny, restored bike!

I've restored/refurb'd a couple of similar vintage Dawes in the last year... should be a fairly straightforward job, keep us posted and FWIW I'm also in Manchester if you ever have trouble with stuck stuff for example (he says having almost destroyed another bench vice)

Thanks for your advice and offer of help; I may well end up taking you up on your offer.
I am hoping it will be straight forward. My next post will be on the subject of decals etc which I'm sorting out before I sort out a new paint job.

It's amazing what powdercoat can smooth over, even if it's not quite as glossy as a good stove enamel.

Yes, there are currently plenty of blemishes that will need to be hidden
