I had a dream bike, a 94 De Rosa titanio, and had the occasion to buy a Pegoretti (I think a 97 Tanguillos). Being the paintjob brilliant, I had the intention to use it as a wall hanger. When I got it, I decided to assemble it and try it out. To make a long story short, I sold the De Rosa and kept it. It was just better, in any possible cycling circumstance. A year after, not being a steel fan and wanting to try ti again, I got myself a Merlin. Nothing, even this rig didn't match the performance of my Pegoretti, and got sold.
In brief, it bites the tarmac, it tracks like it's on rails, it's comfortable, and even decently light, at slightly under 8kg, with a really heavy saddle, a no nonsense 10spd Ultegra, and training tubular tyres. The only high end parts are an Ingrid chainset and a light set of carbon wheels by Marchisio.
Well... 8 well welded tubes.
