Removing handlebar tape residue

Hi, had a hard job peeling off some sticky backed handlebar tape which has left a lot of sticky residue in the form of ridge lines.
What’s the best thing for clearing it off. Tried some nail polish remover but that didn’t work very well.

WD 40 left to soak followed by baby wipes......I dream of carbon tetrachloride lol

Acetone or thinners and a bit of scrubbing. As mentioned, WD40 will loosen it as well.

Lighter fuel.

+1 for wd40
but then wipe down with Isopropyl alcohol.

Lots of the above will work but most readily available to most people is WD 40.
