Removing Dent in Thin Steel Top Tube

It looks quite bad, if you keep traumatisng it, it will weaken, why can't you replace the tube?.

I don't think ice, or CO2/hairdryer can be classed as traumatising to a steel frame.

2 reasons for trying not to replace the tube:

1. The tube is Dedachai teardrop shaped so non-standard profile.
2. Argos charge £90, plus painting for a Reynolds round tube.

If the CO2 doesn't work, I'll leave as is, touch up with paint and the Mrs can ride it as is.

I saw one go on eBay for £124, albeit in an 18" flavour.

I would hang around and wait for one at the right price, swap all the rest over onto it.

Then you could sell it on and probably cover half your outlay.

I've never tried this just brainstorming.

How about those really strong little magnets, rare earth neo somethings, check ebay.

Stick them the middle of the dent and keep yanking them off outwards, maybe put a cloth between them and the frame so you can pull.

Applying heat and or cold too.

Or do what the body panel guys do and bond a drawing pin type pin head to the middle of the dent and yank that out, grab the pin shaft with pliers or smething and tap the pliers outward.

Then you've got to disolve the bond to remove the pin.

similar to stew, I was going to suggest epoxying a ring to the center of the dent and pulling it out, afterwards you could dremel off the ring and sand out the epoxy.

My suggestion would be to bond the head of a bolt onto the ding and then use the threaded end to attach a slide hammer and knock it out, then clean the bondo off and a small amount of filler to finish it off.

I have the same problem with a Marin Team 1992 basicaly the dent is same place on the top tube looks as though the handlebars made the dent... :x
Rest of the frame is in good knick so hoping to also remove dent or at best reduce dent
@Ratbane ...How did it work out with your Kona frame ?
