Rear Wheel Lost All Tension

From memory stans typically have very low max tensions. Sort of 110-120 region. The downside of light, un eyeletted rims i guess.

As for oil, what oil is the important thing. I've been taught with two different oil types and tried a few others. The right stuff makes life easy, the wrong stuff you might end up having to add 20 or more kgf to get the wheel to stay tensioned.

interesting. I've used 3-in-1 and engine oil without finding any significant difference, although I've only built about 20 wheels total

That pdf has max spoke tensions on it.

And as for oil. Anything that is tacky/thick or leaves virtually no residue. I use either linseed oil (which i've run out of) or very light spray oil that only leaves a residue (5-56 or GT85 type stuff). All the wet lubes i've tried have been a pain in the arse, but the spokes turn really really easily ;)

Unless of course, you apply then take most of it off.
Not tried dry lubes yet. Probably not going to bother.
Anti seize spray (or copperslip) also works.

Oh, and the lower tension you have, the more critical i've found it to be. So 11 speed road hubs, idle side, are a pain in the arse!

a much younger and more hubristic me decided an 11 speed road hub with DT revolutions would be a good tackle for his third or fourth wheel build....

Yeah, my first one was a 24H straight pull for a mate, shallow (ish) carbon rim. (25mm ish)

That caused some swearing, and i did suggest that 28 would be better. At least on the back.

Ah well. He brings me beers every time he smacks it off the scenery........... only once every year/18 months.

Re:

Well to play safe I checked the front wheel which I built at the same time using the same method and it’s still true and tension balanced. Retensioned the rear wheel and trued it up and we’ll see how it holds this time around, got it just under 120 which is the limit of what the rims are rated to.
