Rear mech threads.

LGFs barrel adjuster is the answer. The adjuster has an internal thread, thereby shortening or lengthening the cable outer.
Same solution to your front mech having no built-in adjuster

The helicoils work well so long as theres meat for them to go into . :)

Hi @pigman Not sure which mechs you are using but my Shimano ones have a couple of grub screws that take a 2mm allen key to adjust cable tension on front mech.

Maybe I've missed something here. I have all sorts of Shimano front mechs, latest model is 6700 10 speed. Where are those grub screws, I can't see them?
 
Sorry, I'm slightly wrong. There are two grub screws that adjust reach - max and min travel. There is a single grub screw on the cable housing that adjusts the tension.
