Ok, don't laugh, don't call me an idiot, as I'm only asking.....

Ahead stems. Have one on my Kona.

Now, I live in a flat, so limited room. I'd like to get one of the wall mounted bike hangers so the bike is out of my way when not being ridden, but the rub is that when you want to hang it, you have to undo the bolts on the stem to twist it so forks straight and bars parallel to frame.

Would two Seat Q/R's be strong enough to keep the stem secure while riding? I mean, they hold a wheel in place right?

Might not look very pretty, but if I was to replace the bolts thru the stem with Q/R's, then I wouldnt have to have tools out or anything. just twist and hang. I KNOW an allen key isn't the hardest tool too keep handy, its just a thought.

Chances are it would hold, especially if you got a headlock device or similar to replace the top cap but it would just look awful. It might not fit well either on the non qr side if you know what i mean.

Try it! I wouldn't trust it though. Fair enough they keep your seatpost in place but that doesn't have anywhere near the leverage your bars insert on the steerer tube.

Uuuuuuhhhmm....I wouldn't! I have three bikes on my walls at the mo in my flat, but the bikes hang by one of the pedals, therefore the stems and bars require no adjusting. I´ll show you a pic if necessary.

PS all pedals fit; flats, SPD´s, eggbeaters, candies etc. I use an L bracket to support the front wheel so it doesn't slide, but other solutions will work. At my LBS they use some kind of rubber bumpers for the front wheel to rest on. Whatever is neatest and cheapest...

What would you do about the top cap on the stem? Tightening the top cap loads the headset and stops play, so you'd have to retension the headset thru the top cap every time you wanted to ride - so you might as well just use an allen key on the stem too!!

Besides, if the bracket is an issue, why not just drop the front wheel out of the forks and turn the bars thru 90 degrees? Simples!!

because, you are missing the point. then i'd have to find somewhere to hang a wheel too!

Will just keep an allen key to hand. I did try and explain how it was an idea to not have to keep tools around lol.
