Re-anodising a Pace frame???

Wow, has it been stored in salt-water? :?

That is really quite bad corrosion for aluminium, it's gonna take some prep to get those tubes in a fit state to anodise. If the alloy is not a clean, smooth finish the ano will look awful.

I'd actually be somewhat concerned over the structural integrity of the frame and whether it's worth restoring...

Looking at the pics of the condition of the frame it's a load of stone chips that have removed the anodising and allowed some light oxidation to take place. Structurally it should be fine but it will need some serious cleaning up before it's anodised again.

I live near Barnoldswick so would be happy to deliver and collect your frame if you decide to go ahead with the work mousemat. Might speed things up. :D

sorry to hijack the thread

I had a stem stripped and re-anodised finish came out matt, didnt do any prep as such they just stripped thE old black off and anodised it in black again,

Do you have to mirror polish it prior to having it anodised to get that nice "glossy" finish?

I spoke to the guys up at CCA today who confirmed that it was currently (no pun intended) 'in the bath' and would be with me for the weekend.

Can't wait to add the gold decals from GilM ;-)

ano can be done in both gloss and matt.

I don't know what the process is but on the job sheet I have seen with my batches there is 'chemical brighten' itemised.

I had stuff done from matt black to gloss blue and it looked identical to new bare ally stuff I sent.

Excellent, looking forward to seeing the results! Really need to get mine done, have all the bits to build it now!

Frame came back yesterday, and it's an amazing job.

I had it dipped, bead blasted and re-anodised satin black. It looks like it was made that way - a very professional job. Obviously, the bits that were 'a bit rough' going in have come out looking less than smooth but that met my expectations.

Attached shows the finish I got and the top of the rear triangle which was a bit pitted.

The frame needs to be stripped COMPLETELY including bottle cage bosses as the steel conducts electricity better than the AL frame and the current melts them.

CCA had my frame for two months, but the work was £80 - and they did my seat pin collar gold too!

All told, I'm well chuffed.

Now I can put her back together (some retro parts and some new) and will post photos as soon as she's being ridden.

Looks great! How did you get the bottle cage bosses, crud catcher bosses and the boss on the rear wishbone stay out?
