Pace cycles themselves still sell steerers on their website - although I note the price! … am sure have seen steerers on this site & ebay also. Thing to note is steerer tube should be fitted with a circlip beneath crown to prevent it pulling through.

The f/s look really nice , I have some in original condition with original Pace iridescent logo’s - no idea if those are still available ? A friend has recently restored some for his Overburys Pioneer , and is v.pleased with them.

Ha! Sometimes one wakes up having drunk ale the night before to find an Ebay purchase has been made! I had no ale, and no, I didn't pull the trigger over the bowl of oats this morning (when they were still available)!

As much as I would have liked them, they would have looked well swish on the Merlin, I should have a Christmas bonus coming, I woke up and thought nope - I'd be spending more to sort the steerer and I have some P2 on-hand which will sadly need shortening to about 21cm - they have a monster steerer. Perhaps they'll surface here somewhere?

They are a little odd. Don’t think I’ve seen gen 1 rc30s with alloy plugs in the tops of the legs before. All the pairs I’ve ever owned have had steel welded ends

One for the Pace historians , here are mine with original iridescent decals in situ.

I wonder if the inserted end caps are indicative of 1st gen. / mk.1 RC30s being offered as a standalone component - rather than the earlier part of RC100 bike package? Curious to know. 52872189704_8e6a59a98c_o.jpeg

I reckon they must be post RC35, partly as they are the same as RC35 leg caps, but also I guess they assumed they’d be swapped in and out for the suspension legs dependent on the course. Those alloy caps are less susceptible to chips and scratches than the welded in painted steel ends
