Rare Retrobikes...

The other end of the telescope....

Who wants to have their unique personal and emotional tastes, fiscal limitations and riding experiences somehow devalued in public by a largely statistical argument that 'less is obviously so much more, dahling - don't you SEEEEE'!!?

Multiply that 10 fold if you've never had one yourself; 20 fold if you've never even seen one in the flesh; 50 fold if you've only ever heard about such a fabled thingamajig!

Why is it that the something so rare was not made available to the masses anyways - surely the inverse argument applies 'that it cannot have been that good in the first place' or are there other market forces at work on human nature here...?!

there's a Ridgeback 602GS in my outside loo. Needs the wheels rebuilding (nasty rustless spokes which have erm rusted), mix of DX (cast offs from a zolatone Eldridge Grade), STX & Shimano Exage 200 (chainset alone probably doubles the weight of the whole bike - cast iron, will never wear out). My old Courier Comp (shocking pink) is in my mates garage a few miles away (it's his mrs's bike). The previously mentioned Marin is in Canterbury gathering dust on its Onza HO cantis, Paul's fireball seat binder bolt, XT everything else (circa 1990), USE seatpost, bars and bar ends... got a piccie somewhere. Beautiful bike. Remember going to buy it. £500 in my pocket felt very guilty spending so much on a bike at Christmas when for the first time there seemed to be a real homeless problem in Manchester. Very nearly didn't make it into Harry Hall's, spent quite a long time contemplating giving it to the Sally Army.

personally I think my unicorn is a mid eightys Bright yellow Muddy Fox Explorer.

Not a rubbish bike, but not a great oneand a real piece of UK Mountain bike history. It was the first mountain bike I owned in about '84-'85 and I'd love another, wouldn't want to ride it, just own one again.

Never seen a good one since.
Me too i had one. Had it nicked

Hanebrink, Monolith, Green or that carbon fibre Specialized FSR.

Monolith! Definitely hard to find! I still have the Monolith Rebound fork waiting for a matching frame :(

I have only seen one before!

I've never seen a Formula 1 in the flesh, in fact the only time I ever saw one was when MBUK took a photo of Deb Murrell.
Anyone remeber the pics of her bikes in MBUK's Works Bikes?
She had 2, an XC and DH rig..........bloody beauties they were. And tiny, I think she was only 5', but a lovely lass when I met here a Leicester track. But no, F1 didnt make her a track bike!
