RALEIGH SBDU 753 DYNAFLITE.... 'Race Special No7'

We need your lottery numbers 🤣

The Bmx in question I believe is Craig Schofields he was sponsored by Raleigh & won the world champs in whistler Canada in 84-85 ish I think , and that same bikes previous owner American rider Toby Henderson had it built for him around 79-80 ish , it has an awkward geometry and got broke and repaired a couple of times, Craig still has it , Reynolds 531 aero tubing.

But anyway back to the Dyna ….
In an old write up it says 531, but when Craig received it from Gerard having been repaired it's 753..bit of a head scratcher..🤔
Been looking at those leather covered Kashimax aero seats, not cheap and difficult to get hold of even the re-pops, would look cool..👍

That’s it 👍 , I reckon you could work some magic & scoop this up aswell;)

How about the Paul Smith range of Kashimax saddles

The bike was acquired by Granville Horton who owned Olympic Cycles in Sherwood Nottingham and was also in the Beauvale CC. On speaking to Granville he can't remember exactly but probably the late 80's either through the shop or club. Olympic Cycles built their own frames and used ex SBDU painter Phil Ilsly who set up Skill Enamelers in Ilkeston to paint their frames. Granville told me that the red, white and green were the Beauvale CC club colours and had the frame repainted by Phil. Granville sent me a picture of him racing a 2 up time trial on the Dynaflite and one in the same spec as I bought it when he sold it back in 2010...

Only the best goes on a dynaflight vc ;) , & any idea on the original colour ?
Granville can't remember the original colour, he must have had so many bikes coming and going with the shop and club and well over thirty years have passed but I'm guessing maybe just plain silver or gold.
I really like the look of the Silver Prototype pictured at the February NYC bike show 1980. Note the strange mix of Campagnolo Super Record components and Shimano Dura Ace transmission..😱 Campagnolo hadn't yet released their braze front mech..

Later in July 1980 the same prototype bike can be seen with full Campagnolo Super Record along with a few other changes, held up by Gerald O'Donovan who may have got to keep it..🤔

The two prototype bikes that exist today are both in original paint. This pale blue machine was given to Raleigh's head of design Alan Oakley...note that the bike has the NYC show bike Dura Ace front mech and chainset..

The dark blue metallic bike was presented to Raleigh's Chairman and Managing Director Ian Phillips.. I'm wondering if it was painted to match the Jag ...🤔

Still not sure what colour, one thought was to keep the same paint as it in good condition and just apply Raleigh decals..🤔 or go for something more custom. Been looking at some beautiful Italian aero bikes of the same era for some inspiration...😛 colnago_oval_cx.jpg Screenshot_20221102-095036~2.png 5vvvvvvv7.jpg 5ttttttttttt7.jpg L1130595-1024x591.jpg L1130620-1024x565.jpg COLNAGO-Mexico-Time-trial-Aerodinamica-USSR-100km-Moscow-1981-82-Campagnolo-Super-Record-vinta...jpg 1985-86-COLNAGO-Mastrer-Ofmega-Premier-Special-Edition-Eroica-vintage-steel-collectible-bicycl...jpg L1130588-1024x641.jpg 49092066313_e7d9421846_b (1).jpg

On the first page I mistakenly said my brake calipers were Campagnolo Victory. After closer inspection turns out that they're Triophe with black pads and adjuster O-ring. Something else I noticed is the centre nut on the Victory is pointy whereas on the Triophe it's open. Were Campagnolo thinking of dropping in a gemstone then abandoned the idea at the last minute 🤔 Anyway they're in as new condition with no pad wear. I prefer the script logo and more aero quick release over the Super Record..
