Raleigh Mirage 1991 Re Commission

Hey folks, bit of a tail for you. I was given this 1991 Raleigh Mirage by a neighbour that I’ve known it been hung up in her garage for LOTS of years I’d say 10 plus easily, it’s in really sound condition with little use I’d say. I’ve given the bike a good few washes and re greased the seat post , and other bits to keep them free. I’ve got the gears running ok too, the grips were doing whiskey throttle on both sides so I’ve got the fitted correctly. Not sure what my plans are with it yet but I’m enjoying having a bit play with it currently. Let me know what you all think? Cheers

I’ve just had the rusty seat QR lever out and I used the tin foil method and it’s cleaned up pretty well.

It’s cleaning up so well, for a 32 year old bike everything is coming to part really easily. The tyres still have the wee moulding spikes on them. I’ll put some pictures of her a bit cleaner up soon.

Wow, this is the bike I started on BITD. Later the seat post got stuck and I never got it loose. I ended up welding the seat post directly to the seat tube after cutting the old one out just below the ST/TT junction. And then it got stolen. I used to have a bright yellow wheel cover on the rear wheel. (yes, that was a thing in 1990).

Now that’s very cool! This one is in great condition. The seatpost was the first thing I went to hoping it wasn’t stuck or anything, it came straight out. This morning I took the front wheel QR out and boom straight out, I’ve had bikes 10-15 years newer and they’ve been stuck in! It’s amazing how clean this bike is.
