If you rebuild the wheels, be wary of over-tensioning those. I rebuilt a pair, and a while later the rear one spontaneously pretzelised itself. Luckily the bike was standing on the patio at the time rather than rolling along the highway with me on board. That was a well-used pair admittedly, but I'm not sure the section of those rims is so good at resisting such forces compared to a box-section.

Yeah...does seem odd that all that skill and effort has been put into building one of the finest frames Raleigh had to offer and he never rode the darn thing. Maybe with its lightweight windcheating frame it was just too bloody fast...🚀...and scary trying to stop with those crapy Weinmann 730's... stick with the old Raleigh Superb.

Messed around with various tyres and brakes and the old longer reach Campagnolo Record should work with the pads at the bottom of the slots front & rear. Bigger 32mm tyres with wider mudguards will work but would have to deflate the rear to fit. I'm thinking 28mm with the original narrow mudguards would be the optimum size...👍

The 26.8 Campagnolo Record seat post has been cut down to prevent it being inserted too far and damaging the oval tube, it also has alloy side clamps. The saddle is a stock Raleigh item as fitted to Raleigh Misty and other models from the era. The Raleigh Catalogue list's it as 'Padded, black imitation suade', it's the wider for extra comfort, the plastic base is very flexible and weighs 300g.

The handlebars, Raleigh branded stem, black ribbed grips and Weinmann brake levers are stock Raleigh parts bin items as seen on the indexed geared Raleigh Misty & Merlin models. This has got me thinking was the Raleigh Merlin a template for the 'Manager Special'....❓

Cheers for the heads up torqueless, I've read that the eyelets can rust out due to water sitting on the rim. I'm guessing arch created transfers force to the box sections. Checked the external width to be 20mm so I have the narrow AG124 version. What does concern me is whether I can use folding bead tyres as the rims are hookless. I really want to run Continental Grand Prix Classic 25mm tyres which look great are light and fast rolling. Has anyone else tried folding bead tyres with these rims..❓

I really don't "get" this bike.
I understand your enthusiasm for all things sbdu and it's uniqueness for any collector, but if this were likened to cars, I see something hand built coming out of the Ferrari factory - a testerrossa with a fiat 1600cc engine, wheels with balloon tyres and a roof rack on top.
Apologies if that spoils the party and I'm happy you've acquired a unicorn, but, hell, no
