Raleigh Dyna Tech appreciation and information thread

I just had a quick look at the 1993 catalogue and it does look like the Dynatech Diablo RS is the only model equipped in that year with suspension & these were indeed MAG 30's.. on a side note the Ogre XT colour looks ugly in the 93 catalogue, I would like to see a red one in the flesh... lol
yup its for the purple Mtrax, 500 ti, the fork is quite badly scuffed down the left flank, its gonna be murder trying get a paint match and easier a full repray over Argos, which will be extremely expensive, so I'm gonna try and get a nail varnish match on the paint and use the new decals to go down the fork flanks, instead of the fronts. if doesn't work I thought a set of gold rock shox mag 21 to contrast. whats your thoughts?

I don't recall ever seeing a 1993 M Trax with suspension as an option, but I reckon if you'd asked they'd have specced an RS Quadra or an RS Mag 21 (?) or a PACE RC35. I always assumed the fact that their racing team, and some top end models, used front suspension meant the frames were at least nominally suspension corrected. Raleigh and especially the Special Products Division were among the best when it came to getting geometry right, and despite Raleigh's image of being about kids bikes or bikes for uncool adults, they were very forward looking when it came to this kind of thing.

In 95 or 96 I fitted an RS Q 21R to my M Trax 400 which had a lot of travel for an XC fork at the time, and didn't notice the geometry go funny.
yup, was singleton cycles in Swansea, they was closing down in 1993, I went in for a Mtrax 700 and came out with a TT lo-pro, an ogre xce, the purple 500 and and a shop damaged red silver 500, for a budget busting 2 grand, the purple one I road to death, because I loved it. wish I'd kept that mint now and used the other one. how times change, when you cant even buy Raleigh spare parts, off the Raleigh website now, never mind a titanium bike!

guys, can anybody remember, what was the factory option in the catalogue on rockshox forks on a 1993 Dynatech M-trax 500? I'm leaning towards quadra or Judy. I don't think they fitted mag 21`s until 94 with the ahead, 93 had the 1 1/8 quill. Any ideas @mtbkez?

I would be definitely going down the Pace RC35 route in my opinion they look the part on any Raleigh frame of that period. I am running RC35’s on my Dyna-Tech MT4 build

a little bit of Dyna-tech trivia, for those interested,
this impressive looking building, was the Raleigh 5 star dealer in Swansea, I think I was there last big customer in 1993, as only a few years later, they was closed and gone, M&P Cycles had just opened a brand new mega store, outside of town, where you could buy things, like nuke proof hubs and marzoochy forks, off the shelf.

the dealer was a lovely old man, workshops on site, townhill campus just behind and all the kids wanted the latest Korean mass produced frames from Asia. so I ended up with 4 sweet deals. I wanted an m-trax 600 or 700, but what I came away with was, A stunning metallic purple M-trax 500, an Mtrax 500 in silver and plumb, A Dynatech TT lo pro frame n forks, still got. 2060 possibly 2070, i`ll have to check. and the worlds most stunning ogre xce, 2125, in my hands its only done about 50 miles in 32 years, I don't know how many miles Kerry done on her, but can`t be many.

just a sad little reminder, of how big Raleigh Shops were, compared to the nothing, we have today. the top 2 floors, were the dealers, the bottom grey windows, was legal and generally, the entrance was from the left. I can still remember in August 1993, picking up my first Dynatech, Feeling like a king, in my team t shirt and cycling up the mumbles.

in the picture from the air, bottom left hand of picture, you can see it was false front and the shop was the square, with a cut out, for the lift.

if the thought of the 45mm travel on a good day is making you dizzy... the rc 30 is also an option?
RC, wasn't they pace forks? tbj I could go suntour, it wont be getting hard off roading, hust as long as it suites the bike for light gravel etc. I don't want to respray the whole bike, because of the chipped forks. for off road, I use my voodoo hoodoo, plenty for what I need it for.

They are pretty much Pace's rigid version of the RC 35, share same crown & steerer..

I'm not sure I could put modern Suntour forks on lol (I suppose it depends on the specs!), I would have thought anything too modern would kill the geometry & might stress the bonded head tube more?, check the current A to C height on the mtrax forks, I suspect 390mm so it might be a good idea sticking to period short travel unless you can find some modern forks which have similar specs ..
