Raleigh Dyna Tech appreciation and information thread

You're right, I need a larger frame size. Where do you see the fork travel limit for a mid 90s Torus XT?

The Torus of 1994 has been sold with the fork installation height of 415 mm. So it was the U.G.L.I. fork, the SR Duo Track 8001 which has been installed by factory side. Both of them has had the same installation height, this is simular to a 45 mm travel. Based by this geometry data sheet the instalation of a 45 mm up to 63 mm travel fork is in the range, because there is only 1° that make only a little diffferenz of the geometrie data. Only once a time I changed the MAG 21 to a Manitou EFC with a 73 mm travel and a installation height of 445 mm, so the handling characteristics changes enormous and I lose the joy of ride. The Geomatry data change with nearly 3° to the Standard geometry.

Best regards

My SR Duo Track 8001 fork is broken and I'm not really sad about that. So you would say that 63 mm is the maximum fork travel distance, but what about the installation height? 450 mm is too much in your opinion? The problem is that people have so many different opinions about that, some even say that their bike rides better with a longer fork. Maybe they should buy a chopper bike. I think I'll buy a mid-90s Judy XC wich allows me to change fork travel to 50, 60 or 75 mm.

In my oppinion the 60 mm travel is the best decision. My Titanium XTR USA Design with the 1994 Judy SL fit the frame very well with 50 mm travel and looks realy cool with this frame.

But this don't solve the problem with the wrong frame size.

Best regards

Folks,
can anyone assist?
I'm trying to date a Dyna Tech (Team colours - Wishbone rear stays) that I may purchase and the guy who's selling has provided the serial number as A52190 (?), I've not seen the actual bike, only some photos. I've tried searching the thread but not found a specific post concerning serial numbers and build dates. Is there such a thing or does anyone know?

I have another Dyna Tech which I will start a build thread on once I have spoken to Argos Cycles and A N other ;-)

Cheers
Andrew

Hey Andrew,

I'm no expert, just a love for the the Dyna things in life!! Think I've seen the bike you are looking at on eBay.

It is more than likely a 1990. The letter 'A' I believe denotes a 1990 frame and that would tie in with Reynolds 2070 tube set.

The frame I saw on eBay has the 'Dyna-Curve' top tube which makes me think it is the Voyager model (see page 4 of this thread) and maybe replacement frame painted in team colours. From what I understand you could request a bespoke colour if you had a replacement frame (wish I knew this as I had a replacement 1991 frame that de-bonded).

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Re: Dyna-Tech Team decals 1991

Cheers mate,
yup that is the one I was looking at.....I don't need another bike, greedy thats all
Not sure I will bid as I already have a 1991 model that is in need of some serious TLC!

Ok a question or two for the Raleigh experts here if I may?

I have a rather sorry looking 1991 Dyna-Tech (Bolted seat stays) in the team colours, its a rather special bike that deserves to be put back together (build thread to follow pending some further research) however it maybe beyond saving :(

Is it possible to debond the rear triangle (using heat?) and rebond a new one in, or braze one in? I have to speak with my local frame builder during the week (Kevin Winters - JMC Hardisty frames) to discuss the possibility of refabricating a new rear triangle. Or anyone know of a genuine Raleigh rear triangle/complete frame for sale? (I'd rather not butcher another rare bike to save this one if Kevin can fabricate a new rear end).

I have a suspicion that a complete new rear end is going to destroy what remains of the 'patina', TBH for me the history is in the frame/bike, not the chips and scratches - for all we know they could have happened in storage ;)

I've been in touch with Argos Cycles, they can't replicate the orange patches/?flames/Raleigh decals or the 2070 decal on the down tube (Metallic component), so does anyone know if the originals are available elsewhere or have any been commissioned in the past?
Argos can do the Dyna-Tech/Top Tube Raleigh script no problem along with matching the paint colours.

The decals on my frame are damaged, however I could trace around them to produce a template if anyone can suggest someone to reproduce them - I've contacted Gil and I'm awaiting a response.

more later, cheers folks
Andrew

You are doing all the right things. A friend got Gil to do up some decals for a Zaskar and they were brilliant. He is your go to.

As for the frame work needed... I'm not the right person to officially advise, but from reading this thread it's not easy to do for a Raleigh Dynatech. I think repainting is tricky due to the heat used in the oven (and the glued/bonded lugs), but actually replacing the rear triangle, I think a frame builder is your best bet for advice here.

Oh... And did you win the eBay Dynatech??
