Up for reluctant sale is my much-loved 1987 Raleigh 8803 fixie.
It's a 531c frame and forks with Campagnolo dropouts and lovely brazing. The frame was carefully stripped and lacquered. The lacquer has now developed a patina, giving the bike a lovely retro feel.
Front wheel is original Mavic MA40 on Miche Superfast hub and runs true and very smooth. The bearings are in top condition and the wheel just spins and spins.
The rear wheel is a handbuilt fixie, a Focus 36h flip-flop hub built on a Rigida rim with black blade spokes. The wheel will be sold with an 18t cog.
The tyres are not as shown, they are Kenda Kaliente (186g each!), giving the bike a healthy 8.4kg weight.
There are some modern components fitted to increase comfort:
- Exustar pedals
- Specialized BG Romin saddle
- 80mm stem, on quill-threadless adaptor
- 40cm wide Specialized alloy bars, with short reach and very comfortable drops.
Brakes and brakes levers are original, as are the bottom bracket and chainset.
The frame dimensions are as follows:
Seat tube centre-centre: 53cm
Seat tube centre-top: 54,5cm
Top tube centre-centre: 55cm
I'm 173cm tall with a 30" inside leg and this bike fits me perfectly. It's a joy to ride: light, fast, silent and as comfortable as one would expect from 531c.
I've included pictures showing patina. Anyone wanting to restore the shiny finish would need to have the frame blasted and re-lacquered. This patina developed quickly and has remained stable as it is.
£200 ONO.
Will also consider selling individual components.
