I've seen them on many SBDU frames - basically as the majority of SBDU framesets were made to customer order you could have - within reason" - what you wanted.
*Gerald O'Donovan would advise what was appropriate for use.
Certain features were not recommended - I can evidence this from the catalogue sent to me when I first enquired about a frame.
The chain hook also featured on many higher end - non SBDU - Raleigh frames: I have a few of those to with the hook.

you didn't need to have a SBDU frame to have a chain hanger. They are on my off the peg Raleigh 531 and 653 frames. They are quite good for keeping tension on the chain if you hang your bike with sans wheels, but not much use in a race if chainging a wheel. I found both as a competitor and providing race service, the quicker you could get a wheel in and on your way was best, and that didn't include positioning the chain on the hanger!

Didn't sound very friendly to me.
I'll just clarify my point about changing a wheel whilst in a competition. I've seen other posts where chain pegs were said to be usefull in these circumstances. My experience is that they are not.

Let's just keep to the subject and enjoy the thing we have in common, namely our enjoyment of our old bikes.
Yes it's a chain hanger, yes, it is quicker not to use it when being serviced in a race, and yes we did fit them to non-SBDU frames.
