Rackless Handlebar Bags - Anyone Use Them?

Off to France tomorrow cycling west from Calais on La Vélomaritime route 4. Not used my Carradice Carradry for some time as I find it bounces putting stress on the back plate on the bumpy off road sections. Maybe I did overload it slightly, gonna give it ago using the shoulder strap for extra support

That's a good idea. I had a similar bar bag a few years back and it tended to droop down despite the mounting bracket if I overloaded it. I moved on to a rackless system because I wanted something I could move from bike to bike.

I too carry stuff on the bars - usually a couple of well filled shopping bags. But - always one each side for balance and extra control. Does this count as rackless, or is it reckless?

Is this the one Nitto makes that is out of stock everywhere and only works with a quill stem?

I don't know who made it, but I prefer the design to that of the Nitto F16. It puts the bag well forward of the bars, and leaves you with enough space on the tops for your hands. It does only work with a quill stem.

The mounting bracket onto the bars is very good with a cable running under the stem to stop the slip. The mounting plate on the back of the bag is held with four rivets, one on the top right has snapped from overloading on a previous trip to France riding on some bumpy gravel green ways. Just my wallet, sunglasses and other lightweight items this time, strap is stopping the bag bouncing on a 62 mile test ride yesterday

That's a good idea. I disliked the way the bike handled so much, I sold my Super C bag.

wow, that's a heck of a rear load! do you have a needle bearing headset on that bike?

In answer to that...yes, everyday when i hang my cool bag with my lunch in under the brake lever...
