Early morning phone call off the Dr and it was bad news the yellow peril had died on the A19 and he was about to eat all the bacon in a fit of depression,
I was also late so had to get my skates on.
After driving over the moors to a stunning sun rise, I arrive at the Hole of Horcum car park and double check the route for todays bimble round the woods.
Next to arrive is Mrlee looking happy at the toughs of hot bacon butties,I have some bad news for him.
As the rest of the chaps arrive a plan is hatched to call at Levisham station café for breakfast, with minimal faffing were ready for the off.
Off across the moors into a stiff head wind on some sweet singletrack for about 3 miles and then down to Levisham station café,
the big smiles at the bottom of the decent are soon too be wiped off our faces as we realize the station café is closed.
Oh well we have enough snack bars and treats to last until lunch time, so off we go to the start of the first stage of the RAC Rally.
We arrive at the start of the first stage and its perfect, sunny sheltered from the wind and full of screaming old rally cars.
I'll let the pics tell the story....
After all the cars have left we retrace our tracks along some nice pine needle trails and then head-out to the next stage
arriving with 6 minutes to the first car, for the next hour or so theres a steady stream of cars and photos with our thoughts turning to lunch.
After the last car has past we set off the the café, we have a few miles between us and hot food.
Along tree lined trails and down muddy singletrack we slide until we reach the station, but then the realization that the café was closed.
We sit on the platform and hatch a plan whilst sharing any food we had, as we sit there a steam train pulls in the the station its Santa's special.
The passengers are all sat eating Christmas dinner which makes us more determined to make the long assent to the pub in Levisham.
Sitting happily enjoying our well eared chips and ale we think we,ve see the last of the rally, then we hear the familiar sound of tunned engines and were treated to our own private display
as the cars returned to there next section.
With Sky's darkening we say goodbye to Gil as home is closer than the car park for him, then we set-off across the moors enjoying the wind at our backs.
Rolling back into the car park we can still hear the engines of the rally cars carried on the wind, we chat about the day as we pack and then
say our goodbyes.
Thanks to everyone for making it another retro ride to remember.
