Early morning phone call off the Dr and it was bad news the yellow peril had died on the A19 and he was about to eat all the bacon in a fit of depression,
I was also late so had to get my skates on.
After driving over the moors to a stunning sun rise, I arrive at the Hole of Horcum car park and double check the route for todays bimble round the woods.
Next to arrive is Mrlee looking happy at the toughs of hot bacon butties,I have some bad news for him.

As the rest of the chaps arrive a plan is hatched to call at Levisham station café for breakfast, with minimal faffing were ready for the off.

Off across the moors into a stiff head wind on some sweet singletrack for about 3 miles and then down to Levisham station café,
the big smiles at the bottom of the decent are soon too be wiped off our faces as we realize the station café is closed.
Oh well we have enough snack bars and treats to last until lunch time, so off we go to the start of the first stage of the RAC Rally.

We arrive at the start of the first stage and its perfect, sunny sheltered from the wind and full of screaming old rally cars.
I'll let the pics tell the story....

After all the cars have left we retrace our tracks along some nice pine needle trails and then head-out to the next stage
arriving with 6 minutes to the first car, for the next hour or so theres a steady stream of cars and photos with our thoughts turning to lunch.
After the last car has past we set off the the café, we have a few miles between us and hot food.

Along tree lined trails and down muddy singletrack we slide until we reach the station, but then the realization that the café was closed.
We sit on the platform and hatch a plan whilst sharing any food we had, as we sit there a steam train pulls in the the station its Santa's special.
The passengers are all sat eating Christmas dinner which makes us more determined to make the long assent to the pub in Levisham.

Sitting happily enjoying our well eared chips and ale we think we,ve see the last of the rally, then we hear the familiar sound of tunned engines and were treated to our own private display
as the cars returned to there next section.

With Sky's darkening we say goodbye to Gil as home is closer than the car park for him, then we set-off across the moors enjoying the wind at our backs.

Rolling back into the car park we can still hear the engines of the rally cars carried on the wind, we chat about the day as we pack and then
say our goodbyes.

Thanks to everyone for making it another retro ride to remember.

See you all on the Christmas Pudding run at Dalby...

cheers kaya

well we got the weather this year what a stunning day, it was a bit windy though, I set off extra early for the bacon butties and brew and arrived at the carpark with only kaya there "si's broke down" with all the other regulars arriving the infamous gil m joined us too, good to see you again gill.
the next option for dead meat was the cafe at railway station, with gill arriving first he came to a complete stop with a shake of his head " can't belive this its closed" so between us we have lots kaya coffee and various chockie bars and the secret knowledge of local man gill we push on to the start of the rally. the trail we followed lead us to the start popping out of the woods right on the start line, excellent. with lots of the usual escorts and saab's there were a few that ticked my box the lancia stratos and the opel ascona 400 with I think nicky grist as co-pilot and also spotted gwyndaf evans in an old red mk2  I did manage to take some pics too.

Good to see you guys, will try and make it a bit more regularly now that the guiding season is coming to a close

That bloody Stratos nearly took me out as I came back into Lockton, he certainly wasn't doing the stated "20 mph"

Another great day out thanks to all that made it, Si is the yellow peril running yet, I was another one who set His alarm late and skipped breakfast, but I thought it's OK Si is taking care of us, it just shows anything can happen so need to be prepared for anything, this must be lesson number 50 in mountain biking   loved seeing the rally cars the smell of burning rubber and fuel brought back a lot of memory's from my days as a sidecar passenger   watch this link of a Mk2 escort being launched
