It is with great sadness that I write this.
I was told the news today that forum regular Martin Evans A.K.A Bryncrug died suddenly yesterday evening.
I first met Martin two years ago through a mutual friend at Birmingham's Skyride.
Martin due to a motorcycle accident in his younger years only had one arm, on the day I met him and as we chatted away about a shared love of bikes and retrobikes, our handlebars clashed and he fell off his bike.
Martin just laughed it off , got back on his bike and continued the ride, only finding out a few days later that he had actually broken his one good arm.
While he was quite happy to talk about it, Martin never let his disability hold him back, in fact after a while you just didn't notice it.
Martin loved his cycling and would regularly undertake a sponsored bike ride from Birmingham to London along the canals, to raise money for a variety of charities.
I last saw Martin on the 26th April when he got us both into Kidderminster cycle jumble as stall holders, through his connections in the bike trade, allowing us to snag all of the early bargains.
As an example of the sort of person Martin was, when I put a wanted add up for a front wheel, Martin gave me an NOS M739 and Mavic rim completely free.
Martin I know made many friends on Retrobike, His last post, “I love this site” says it all about how he felt here, he loved the camaraderie of the site and the wealth of information available. When it came to restoring bikes, in particular his Overburys, Martin was a perfectionist.
Martin was a devoted family man and he leaves behind his wife and his little boy Charlie, who absolutely idolised his dad.
Although I had known Martin only a few years I will miss him greatly, he was simply one of those honest to goodness, generous, genuine, warm and wonderful human beings that you meet all too rarely.
Rest in Peace Martin, Ride Free
