It is with great sadness that I write this.

I was told the news today that forum regular Martin Evans A.K.A Bryncrug died suddenly yesterday evening.

I first met Martin two years ago through a mutual friend at Birmingham's Skyride.

Martin due to a motorcycle accident in his younger years only had one arm, on the day I met him and as we chatted away about a shared love of bikes and retrobikes, our handlebars clashed and he fell off his bike.

Martin just laughed it off , got back on his bike and continued the ride, only finding out a few days later that he had actually broken his one good arm.

While he was quite happy to talk about it, Martin never let his disability hold him back, in fact after a while you just didn't notice it.

Martin loved his cycling and would regularly undertake a sponsored bike ride from Birmingham to London along the canals, to raise money for a variety of charities.

I last saw Martin on the 26th April when he got us both into Kidderminster cycle jumble as stall holders, through his connections in the bike trade, allowing us to snag all of the early bargains.

As an example of the sort of person Martin was, when I put a wanted add up for a front wheel, Martin gave me an NOS M739 and Mavic rim completely free.

Martin I know made many friends on Retrobike, His last post, “I love this site” says it all about how he felt here, he loved the camaraderie of the site and the wealth of information available. When it came to restoring bikes, in particular his Overburys, Martin was a perfectionist.

Martin was a devoted family man and he leaves behind his wife and his little boy Charlie, who absolutely idolised his dad.

Although I had known Martin only a few years I will miss him greatly, he was simply one of those honest to goodness, generous, genuine, warm and wonderful human beings that you meet all too rarely.

Rest in Peace Martin, Ride Free

Re:

Shit, I am so sad to read this. Like many I'm sure, I had struck up a bit of a friendsip with Martin on here. We were only recently talking about me joining him and some of his mates on a cycling trip to France next year. He was a top bloke, friendly, enthusiastic and generous.

I can't stop thinking about his PotM entry this month :(

My thoughts go out to all his friends and family.

Re:

Very sad news :(

I hope he didn't suffer

Never actually met him , but he always seemed helpful , happy , and was an inspiration in what he was able to acheive , despite his disability .

My thoughts are with his family .

Rest in peace

Deeply shocked and saddened by this. He sent me a surprise part for my e stay Friday and we'd been swapping messages all last week.

A thoroughly nice guy in my experience.

Our thoughts, mrs HM's and mine are with his loved ones.

Good lord, how terribly sad, a wonderfully generous member here, thoughts with his nearest and dearest. Rip.

Re:

blimey,

i have to say i didn't know Martin, but this is not good, did he have any other health issues?

it's obvious from the above posts that he was a decent chap. very much a shame.

Re:

he had been feeling a bit low over recent weeks due to work being slow but no health issues of which i was aware.

He had of course had many operations on his arm and shoulder over the years, it was only a few years back he elected to have an amputation as the arm was not functional and he found it hindered him.

He collapsed yesterday evening at home in front of his wife and little boy and was dead by the time he hit the floor, he was 42 years old.

Re:

This is shocking news, yet another member we've lost way too soon. Although I didn't know him very well I bought a couple things from Martin last year and he seemed like a top bloke, very pleasant to deal with. Thoughts are with his family.
