Hello chaps just a quickie ...where would be the best place to find a quill stem that will definitely fit an old Marin (92) it doesn't have to be an original part just fit.......cheers ;)

Just look in the for sale section here mate or ask in the wanted thread. Think by 92 all Marin's were 1 1/8th so any 1 1/8th quill stem will do if you're not bothered about it being a Marin one.

only the bolinas ridge in '92 had 1".

so muirwoods and above had 1.1/8" the easier option i reckon.

most steel models had the stem with the cable stop and pulley wheel but not critical as stem mounted cable hangers are plentyful.

Good info cheers coz turns out its a Bolinas ridge ha ha so whats your advice on what and where to find a correct stem

right, the bolinas had the front brake cable routed though the body of the stem, fed in from the top, sort of thing. otherwise a standard 22.2mm stem with 25.4 bar clamp.

the link below is an example of what you need. colour, rise is your taste but length ought not to be more than 130mm imho as the bolinas frame has a fairly short top tube, this would leave a 'grabby' feel with a long stem. only my experience of course. colour? originally flouro green but anything dark or better still dark purple to match the frame.
