maybe a complete thicko but fitted a new 10 speed chain but never used and wondered how i get the quick link off cheers

Depends on the brand - IIRC some are single use only. But essentially grip in pliers across opposite corners and squeeze. There is also a bending trick you can use (see Youtube)

Ideally use the same brand to avoid problems, and obviously same speed.

Pretty sure ive read on the web that as long as number of speeds is the same mixing brands is fine but never tried it myself, it does assume the width of plates and chain width is exactly the same, which it may not be.

These have saved a lot of cursing in my cave...I have mixed quick link brands (same speed) with no issues
