A medical type question for the male over 50 rider membership herein. If you are willing to share your experiences...

For those which have had a PSA test, any correlation with slightly elevated, false positive PSA levels and riding?

No help here, haven't hit veteran status yet.

That being said, if you or a relative hit a positive for prostate cancer, battle through it. You've got more riding to do.

Apparently there is some form of correlation between both riding (cycling) and general exercise (non cycling) and slightly elevated PSA levels, especially for those that log 3+ rides or more per week at an hour or more per ride.

There isn't much documentation available however. The LS website mentions the relationship. Cycling (frequency and duration) seems to be indicated factors, moreso than general exercise. The relationship is so poorly understood/medically documented that the general preparation instructions for the blood test do not caution/advise against engaging in activity that can raise the PSA level.

If you are of the age that a PSA test is part of your periodic health regimen, it might be appropriate to discuss with your physician whether you may need to temporarily suspend your riding for 2 - 3 days before your blood test. Might prevent an unneeded biopsy.

I am in search of the documentation... if it exists.

Yes, it would be interesting to know what it IS about cycling that triggers elevated PSA levels more readily than other physical activity. I have my own theory ;) Its true that 'bloke issues' maybe don't get the same focus as they should. On the positive side, medical breakthroughs are coming thick and fast these days, better detection through less intrusive means and better treatment and prognosis in the event of discovering C. Here's hoping they will consign PC to history in the next 15-20 years or sooner.
