Have a Bump on me as @BlackCat your comments (made me laugh out loud) and are so true yet often hidden on forums were technical nous and mechanical empathy / ability are only 1/2 the story.

I just love riding is as much of a validation as pulling stuff apart .

I like to pull stuff apart thou.

I often find myself staring, gobsmacked at someone’s build, wondering what on earth these guys do as a day job.. you know.. when they’re not knocking up perfect C-26 replicas from original tube sets they just happen to have lying around, or teaching themselves to reproduce meticulous Klein fades in their garden shed.

Technical skills - and lists of personal contacts here (“I’ll just get Frank to weld me a new stem for my Ultimate”) frequently leave me in awe. I wonder how many guys on the site fall into my bucket of “expertise” and how many seem to possess advanced engineering skills (or indeed, Dyna’s database of expert fabricators)!

Must admit I really enjoyed my 2 year Engineering course at College, especially actually doing the practical stuff in the metal work and CAD/CAM workshops. I could make a pretty mean plumb bob and nutcracker I'll have you know

If I come into money and no longer need to work, I can see myself buying a few essential tools (lathe/pillar drill/milling machine etc) and giving fabrication a go again.

But until then @BlackCat I am much like you, reliant on the skills of others!

Ha. I don’t doubt it. The only issue I have is no engineering shops around these parts. The best I could hope for is some self-anointed “artisan” hipster, in an achingly cool part of Hackney, to “craft” something or other for me. Would be cheaper to just get McLaren’s prototyping division to knock something up.

Very funny....and true.

Theres a company near Uxbridge called Small Order Springs who aren't horrific cost wise (last time I checked) and work quickly.....can all be done by post.
