Agree with some points on here though - you can have too much. I like looking at purple cranks, handle bars, etc, but I wouldn't fit them myself.
But for me, just a touch here and there - on the right frame - is perfection (like with polished Zaskars, as an utterly random example *cough* *cough*)

see, buying red is a false economy, sooner or later you have to get it re-anno'd, and preferably (like you say) in a proper colour.
Buy purple, buy once. And you can take your bike out without fear of fading..

I see the point that having too much purple is a bad thing.
Maybe QR skewers, post clamp, canti hangers, headset and bolts etc. I missed out on a nive set of x-lite stubbies in purple a few days back.
One of my mates had is whole bike anodized purple back in the early 90's. It was stolen 2 days later.
