Puerto Pollensa Holiday

Take some pipe lagging to put on the frames, works a treat and is very light. I take bikes with Ryanair and they are OK, so I would imagine Easy Jet will be fine.

and do you box them up or do you put them on board "as is" with the lagging around them? i did it that way when i went to oz years ago and the bike survived intact. the reasoning being back then that if the the baggage guys see it's a bike, they are less likely to throw it around the place! it worked a treat!

I have used cardboard bike boxes with duct tape corners and also have a Carradice soft bag which I tend to pad out a bit. I don't think you can just send a bike anymore without a box. I do make sure it weighs a hefty 30 kg, which is their limit, they can't throw that around.

Beware there is a size limit for the oversized baggage x-ray machine, I'm not sure what they do if its too big to go through that though.
I do take off the rear mech and leave it dangling on the cable and at Stanstead they asked if I had any lube or grease in the box as they will not let that through as it's flammable blah, blah

I lied and was ok, gets me that they can sell flammable alcohol products on the other side in glass containers that would make a nice Molotov cocktail, if that's your thing.

I'm hiring a bike this year. Carbon focus bikes with an 'AA' service a mobile phone call away should you break down. Don't know the details, as my buddy is sorting, but he used them last year and reckons about £90/week

Yeah, only downside is they have compact chainsets and I'd really want a man's chain set. 34x28 seems a bit girly.

personally, i recommend 53/39t - i don't think that cycling ever got more realistic than that . .

I'm just back from Mallorca. Had a fantastic time, warm and sunny. Rode with the Sky and Garmin teams. For about 3 seconds.
Stayed in Arenal. Paid 115 euros for a carbon bike for 6 days. One shop was doing Carbon Defys for 100 euros for 7 days. Found out too late.

You should absolutely have a crack at Cap Formentor - the climb into the mountains starts right behind Port de Pollensa and it pays back straight away with hairpins and amazing views.

I hired from http://www.bicycle-holidays.com/en/cycl ... en/?hID=11 who were based at the hotel we stayed at through total blind luck. The prices were acceptable to Mrs Goldie, although I can't remember the details...

I would love to take my own bike now I know what a cracking place it is. You'll have to let us know how you get on :D
