Project Kona ....

Brilliant work so far enc. I'm well impressed with your hardcore diy approach - me being a lazy sod would have sent the frame down to a powdercoaters ages ago :)

Also learning a fair few things too. Although not the comment about spray paint in the house. Even I knew that one :-D

sorry ENC..Missed you name mate.. rather than just calling you mate.

out of interest how hard is it to part flat broken laquer and then relacquer. i assume smart car repairs have this is done all the time. My kona U'i (in my sig) actaully the remaining paint isnt that bad. the lacquer is awfull in places. was half thinking of trying to touch up myself. not looking for any pro finish, just improving whats left.

The frame will be painted out doors or in my garage with open doors, so with the cooler and wetter weather drawing in, its time I got some paint on the frame.
only the down tube and crannies under the head tube, crank shell and cable stops had paint remaining. As with the rest, the main tubes were hand sanded with p80 used wet. Crannies were attacked with wire brush drill attachment ... Some of these areas will need further refinement with the Dremel.
Surprisingly, considering the rust patches on the frame there is very little rust pitting to be found.

Bye bye KONA ...

Last of the paint removed ....

So with the prospect of some decent weather this coming week end (fingers crossed) the plan is ...

Refine surface with up to 2000 grit wet and dry
De grease
Etch prime
High build primer ( where required)
Prime
Colour coat
Clear coat.

It should look pretty good with that colour choice as it's a good solid colour ..

yeah... nice n subtle :D

managed to get it to the stage of high build primer :D had a little accident that'l need fixing when the primers gone off

other than that i'm pretty pleased with it .

Paint spillage is the usual accidental issue but it doesn't sound to serious so that shouldn't hold you up much ;) ..
