Just bought this. Its not quite as retro as id like but it will do, as it was cheap which keeps the wife happy The only thing im not keen on is the stem and seat. Any suggestions for a better looking stem and seat would be appreciated.

Presumably, this is going to be a workhorse, so you're looking for straightforward, functional items.

Stem: do a search on eBay, etc., for a silver ahead stem, see what it throws up, and choose something of the right length and angle for you. If you want a Specialized stem, you could put a wanted post on here. Silver would look better than black on this bike I think.

Saddle: very much a personal choice. I like a Madison Flux or Charge Spoon myself. I don't find the faux leather survives the elements very well though (barely a year before looking tatty), which is pretty wasteful, so I bought a cheap Halfords saddle with a two year guarantee for my all-seasons, all-weather RockHopper. Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Yes its going to be used for days out with my lad and also a commuter.
I think a silver stem will look best too, ill check those out the seat needs to go asap might nip amd get one from halfords tomorrow.

Finally got a few hours spare this morning to remove the bottom bracket. While I had the cranks of I stripped and cleaned the crankset. They look alot better now after removing all the sticky grease and mud.

Brought a new bottom bracket today from my LBS. Couldnt find a shimano one though. I fitted it to the bike this afternoon whist my youngest had a nap. Fitting was easy and after a tune up its rock solid compared to the old one.

Next jobs to do are new brake blocks and new gear and brake cables.

Not quite sure where im going with this rolling project, but as its my first retro bike im bound to chuck new shiny parts at it Any way I got myself a Ritchey carbon handle bar and an absolutely shocking stem which was cheap of amazon.


The bars are growing on me and the stem not so much?????

The hardrock soliders on taking my youngest duck spotting again. And also i treated it to some free 50️01 lock on grips of facebook market place.
