Project 2 forks

In '94 there was 20mm difference between the headtubes of 18" & 19" frames. The 17" & 18" frames both have a head tube length of 110mm, the 19" frame had a head tube length of 130mm

Afraid I have to question that; firstly (according to the catalogue) there is no 17" frame in '94, they start to be offered in '95. Secondly I'm fairly sure that the 18" has the longer headtube same as the 19".

My 18" Dome has P2s with a 163mm threaded steerer (so the longer ht), BUT it is a '91, so it's possible that the headtube of the 18 - but not the 19 - got shortened in the geometry change of '94 onwards... Seems unlikely though.

Where's Anthony when you need him?!

Yes, your 18" '91 frame would have a headtube length of 130mm, as they were up to and including the '92 18" frames. The headtubes for 18" frames were shortened in '93 by 20mm down to 110mm, the same year the P2 was lengthened from 390mm to 410mm a-c and front suspension was offered as an alternative.

As for a 17" frame in '94, your right, there is no listing in the catalog for that size however I have a 17" '94 Hot sitting here staring me in the face right now with it's 110mm headtube, the same length head tube as an 18" from the same year (and 17" & 18" frames of following years)

Just measured my forks that are fitted still on bike...(manitou)
axle to crown is 410mm and fork steerer tube is 165mm roughly..
Thats on a 19inch 1994 bike..
forgot to measure frame tube..

Another question are the forks diferent weights?
early to late ones?

I'm pretty sure my old '94 Kilauea had 395mm a-c forks...

Thanks for bringing this up Reuben, I'd forgotten about this thread and it seems I did make a mistake (it was very early in the morning, I was late for work, the sun got in my eye's, yadda, yadda, yadda  ). The P2 was not lengthened in '93 but it was in '94 (can't explain your Kilauea). Luckily my typo would not have caused the OP to purchase the wrong fork. Aplologies all around gents. I have double checked the rest of my information and stand by it.

On another note, does anyone else think it would be a good idea to start a thread with definitive information about these measurements, weights, geometry etc. regarding Kona's over the years? Seems the same questions repeatedly come up

I said "pretty sure", not "100% certain".
I was assuming that all forks with the nice dropouts were 395mm and that 410 had the newer type.
Were 410s made that looked like the earlier 395s? like this;

Right I have unpacked and measured my forks, they are Triple Butted forks from my 95 Explosif. Steerer length is 163mm threaded, 1 1/8 headset and A-C is 410mm. They have been carefully powder coated black so that the Kona logos are readable on the drop outs and the bearings seat easily and flush. Gil M sorted the exact decals which are yet to be applied. They look gorgeous and I have been thinking hmmm maybe I could get a frame and build a bike, no no no they have to go to, too many bikes already. I also have the matching Velocity stem with decals too. Let me know if you want them : )

Re:

Can't really make out the drops in that pic, but my 410mm (actually 413mm) TBs have very neat dropouts, not the pressed/welded in type of the less butted variety I've seen. Probably had about eight pairs so far from exhaustive research!
