Pretend I'm really rich....

Re:

Ha, I'm with you Greencat as it happens, and for the riding I do, it's really not worth the expense of discs, unless of course they came on the bike and worked perfectly. Even then, I prefer V's because I'm so old school and I love the simplicity - even the bog standard LX ones I have have served me so well, there's no point changing.

Which brings me back to my initial post, which was really a bit tongue in cheek as I doubted I would ever get a 'new' or newer bike, but was thinking maybe there is something in this 29"er business, and expected to be pointed that way, but actually as we have established, it wouldn't be the best choice for me anyway, because of my height, weight, etc.

And then I realise how much I love rigid, single speed, retro stuff, and I think thereby I have my answer!!

If you're ever over this way you're welcome to try out mine. All 29. Take your pick. Just to satisfy your curiosity of course. Wouldn't be entertaining at all.

Yes, but you're one of those freaks that is over 5'8" tall, so your 29ers look in proportion, like a 26er with a frame for someone who is normal height. :p

Tell me this doesn't look a bit silly:

A 650b Tourer ticks the ''...pootling and fire roads and sometimes a bit of mud, but I'm about as 'hard core' as Dot Cotton...'' boxes.

Very strong but compliant steel frames, all the toys plus they look super cool. No lycra/ full face helmets/ giant logos required.
