Thinking of running a presta tube in a shraeder front rim at imminent event.

Any issues with that - likelihood of pinch puncture where valve goes through rim etc ?

Want matching valves for ease of emergency repair, not a fashion issue  ;)

I know i could always drill out the rear rim to accept schraeder as an alternative.

Add grommets to the rim. Very cheap and simple. A box full of mixed groms from ebay is a fiver, or couple from a bike shop for £6.95.

That's an idea - or i could cut a section from old inner tube and place around valve maxi-grommet-stylee

Check the posts in the last week on my Marin thread :)

If you like the look ofthe mavic gromits, pm me ;-)

WD :)

I've got Presta valves in Schrader rims on two bikes, so that I didn't have to mess about swapping the pump head about. I haven't had any problems in the two or three years they've been like it, I just make sure that the locking nut is tightened securely.

and that they stick out at 90% to the rim!

in the absence of fat tubes I've used Prestas and just fitted a washer that I bent in the vice to suit outer profile of rim in an attempt to keep everything in right place

worked for me tho

I run presta tubes on rims drilled for schraeder tubes all the time - no grommets or lock rings and no issues to date (I've been doing this since the 1990s).

There is a little collar sits in the hole, narrow for presta
Think theres one in my box'o'bits ,ill look it out and do a pic :)
