Prehistorical Rockshox in London

Fork pump

Hi and welcome aboard. Lovely bike.
IMO I wouldnt use a football needle on the forks as they are alleged to be slightly larger diameter but do fit. Problem is they eventually crack the rubber seal, also the holes on the end are different. Definately dont use a tyre pump as its too much air. The pumps come up quite regularly for sale on ebay and other places, so you will get one and they are pretty cheap. I picked one up early last year for my Specialized FSX/Ti which is just a carbon mag, it was a specialized FSX branded one, new in a box for £10, so a standard and used rock shox one should be less than that. It must be a limited market really for someone with a few to offload
Will try to post a pic so you know what your looking for.
Again, welcome aboard.

Merlin

Hi Tambool

How are you?

If your Merlin is 18" the pump thing will not work. And if your frame is 18" you cannot fit another fork in that frame.

The only logical thing to do then, is to sell it to me

Your new best friend, Casper

Mr Crankhead,
Climbs like a goat? Well yes, used to when my legs were better! Actually the thing I remember best about it was the feeling of GIVE it had. Almost like it bent but was still rigid if that makes sense. It's very light but strong strong strong.
Thanks for all the replies, guys,it seriously reaffirms my faith in human nature. I'm now scouring the net looking for a pump n needle. I will be posting more pics as and when this project develops.

Crankhead, Tim Flooks and chums will be able to work wonders with that fork, I'm sure - http://www.tftunedshox.com/index.php

As to London shops, well it's a bit of a mixed bag. As follows;
Evans - Avoid
Cycle Surgery - Mixed bag, but they do have some great staff and carry good stock.
Moose - In Tooting, but don't hold that against them! Greg's a great chap.
Brixton Cycles - Great place, great people
Magic - As mentioned before, good place
There are more, but my pick would be Moose, Brixton or striking up a relationship with whoever is closest to home/work!

Condor cycles also pretty good - Grays Inn Road. I've heard a couple of moans about them being a roadie / courier shop, but never been disappointed. They loved my '88 Yeti.

Mosquito (Islington) good as well.

I think with shops it really depends on who you get. I was in Bromley Bike recently and a guy who can't have been born when my RC100 was made was drooling over it :)

Two service instructions are in the Gallery & Archive (under my name) search for Rock Shox or MAG irrc.

They are MAG20's from 1992.
The crown's where recalled (not sure if all or just a specific serial number run)
IF they hold air you are probably good to go.

Spit is not the best thing to use on the needle, light oil is better.

Also the football/baseball needle should only really have a hole at the end, not the side's (or so say the service manuals, originals, I have two types, come with the hole in the end) They side one's can tear the the seal, 40PSI is what you are aiming at. If you have a small hand pump and can buy a needle form a sports shop, give it a go. They can easily hold 100PSI (just don't run them at that), so you can test without shelling out.

Pump and needle, just see if any one on here lives near you has one.

P.S.

Nice frame ;-)
