Prehistorical Rockshox in London

As far as I remember it was just an ordinary football needle valve, I bent loads being a cack handed teenager. But, it was a long time ago and many, many pints drunk since then.

nice machine, but it's crying out for knobbly tyres and some mud splatterring!!! :D

seeing it has slicks on it though i assume you are using it for commuting? this worries me! GET A BIG LOCK!!! AND A BIG SNARLING DOG!!!! seriously please!!

with the mag 20 forks, the guys are correct with the needle type pump, but again use the correct type of needle, a normal pump and a football needle is like using a sledge hammer to crack a wallnut if you see what i mean! the air chamber is quite small so using a large barrel pump is not a good idea.

i have some mag 20's myself (in bits at the moment) i found mine on a scrap heap and had them painted, the seals were dead so i phoned tim at tftunedshox he had sourced the correct seals but would only sell them if he serviced the forks aswel (otherwise it wasn't worth his time) they came back working fine. they have since been painted original again and will be going back together soon. so parts can be found if needed. :D

my old shop in southampton definately has one of the required pumps in their workshop (GA cycles) it won't be for sale though. but my advice would be to find an independant shop as suggested with a history of early rockshox dealings because they will more than likely have a pump to use.

and welcome, soon you'll have it stripped and polished, rebuilt and lovingly cared for! then you'll buy loads of other bikes that you "need" for each and every purpose you can think of! :D :D

Hi,
The only thing I've changed on the bike since 1992 was the tyres. When I was using it in NYC the knobblys were rotton on tarmac. I still have them somewhere. I only intend to use it off road now and will replace the ones that are on now. I feel like an idiot but I'm glad I'm beginning to get the message that the bike's worth looking after.

Lovely bike.

In fact, seeing someone commute on one of these complete with mudguards and racks made me buy the next one I saw for sale

I put RC31s on mine and singlespeeded it, and it is a whippet!

What a horrible bike,...
let me do you a favour and take it of your hands so you can buy a decent modern bike; let's say 250 posted? ;)

nice bike mate, and welcome

Man, i love this site! Message posted at 10:39am and answers within minutes - all the info re: bits and where to get 'em within a couple of hours!

I dug out an old chestnut a couple of years ago ('94/'95 Kona Sex too) and took it to several bike stores - rear shock and Rockshox needed serious service - and again all they wanted to do was sell me new parts / bike. If only i'd have known this site then.. Loads of original serviceable parts were stripped and replaced with cheap shite. The bloke even claimed he'd thrown the original bits / forks away by the time i picked it up. @rsehole.

So thank-you crankheads for restoring my faith in humanity..

BTW the Merlin is a proper bobby-dazzler! I bet it climbs like a billygoat.. ;)
