Postage up yet again!

I did a post office run today, distributing more retro lovelyness to the faithful. I had carefully weighed and measured all the items individually to estimate postage, only to land up at the counter and be told all prices had gone up again or weight/size parameters re hashed!
A light 42t chainring to NL "signed for" (Airsure has been scrapped altogether now ) was £8.70! on Saturday, it would have been under a fiver. A seat clamp in a very small packet UK, was £3.70!

I feel this is totally killing our hobby off, as it's making even small items expensive to buy, or not worth selling if you discount to fit the buyer? I must admit I've binned some parts recently, as with the cost of post ,nobody would pay. :evil: :evil: :evil:

Though there is one very obvious drawback to that way of clearing the shed...

It's killing the 2nd hand handlebar market.
You used to be able to post them in a tube up to 100cm for £2.60 2nd class.
Now even if they are in a tube or not they are classed as a medium parcel if longer than 45cm
and it's minimum of £5.20. Ridiculous. :evil:

Larger items via Parcelforce have gone up around £10 as well...

Yes I know the downside to bike jumbling very well! Go with a boot full of stuff come back with even more. Some retro MTB bike jumbles would be brill though.

Other couriers are cheaper? I have for the first time today used myhermes.

I tend to do things job lot style for smaller or cheaper bits. Its the only way thats worth bothering these days.

I sent some Woodchippers with MyHermes last week for about £4. Very well packed mind, with lots of rigid polystyrene.

Agreed,it restricts your buying when you don't want to sell stuff to fund it because of postal charges!
+ they've lost 3 items I've sent in the last year(rare hard to find items)

It's almost impossible to sell small components in Canada now. a 500 gram package is $16.03 plus tax. brutal. How can I sell a $10 derailleur when the postage is $9? It's totally killing the hobby for us northerns in rural areas. I have to more or less gift everything for the price of postage and a little tidbit for my time if I want to clean up. which means there is little incentive to clean up.
