Post your dream wheelsetup!

Will bladed spokes go through the Mavic 501 hubs? I can't say I would be happy about slotting the holes

I use ti spokes with alloy nipples. works treat. But I'm a weight weanie for my sins

hmm i might have what id have money no object anyway for mtb use

front hub would be sealed . 36 hole ( i ride rigid , so needs to be strong ) just got a hope bigun , not as heavy as ive been led to believe and really like the design of it

dt spokes , id usually go for stainless but ive got black stainless which is cool with the black hub and rim  i wouldnt want ti ive heard about too many breaking

got a mavic xm321 disc rim , not as wide as i hoped but looks plenty strong , deemax look cool but weigh a fookin ton . a mate had some laced to red hope hubs with black spokes  , never had a problem with the d521 but its rim brake compatible so doesnt look too cool when used with a disc . mate had some d321 but they were noticably heavier

brass nipples , id like to try some gsport ones though , they are tapered alloy , so no chance of rounding them

rear hub is a dmr . full width flange , screw on freewheel singlespeed with disc . cant see the point in paying more for something like a paul . it has a hollow 10mm axle with internal thread for m5 cap head bolts which are just better than a quick release

rear rim is an atomlab gi , 32 spoke as the hub width keeps the strength , wide as fook  weighs a ton . would be nice if it was lighter but i wouldnt want something weaker

both rims are drilled . worth between 5 and 10 grams . 3 cross lacing

for me its got to be:

front hub: hope suspension
rear hub: hope ti glide
spokes: dt double butted
nipples: alloy colour matched
rims: mavic 217 sup ceramic or super rare 217 sunsets

I'm trying to go light weight using old school methods:

Ritchey Vantage Pro rims
28h Mavic 501 Hubs [so lush]
CX ray bladed spokes
Campag alloy screw on freewheel or maillard corse

I'm stumped on old light skewers - will probably break the rules and put some ti ones in.

Are ti spokes strong enough?

American classic skewers would look the part?

Hershey or pineapple hubs on ti spokes with sunset rims.(on summat like a fat chance)

or

Disk drive with XT on a 231 up front.( on summat like an ultimate or psyclone)

I'm thinking of upgrading to a really light but still strong wheelset. What's your dream setup for a GT mtb?

Please specify:
- Hubs
- Rimms
- Spokes
- Nipples (if important)!?
- Inner tubes (if you have them)
- Outer tubes

I'll start:
- I'm still doubting whether to buy black Chris King hubset or Tune hubset.
- Ceramic rimms from Mavic.
- Black DT swiss spokes
- Nipples not so important, they just need to be good
- I have Michelin latex innertubes, they ride nice.
- Schalbe Fast Fred, Racing Ralph

I ride mostly XC, dry trails, no real downhill. I'm not too heavy (73 kg, 178m...).
Thanks!

I like your wheelset choices there, except for the black spokes...I hate black spokes... :p

One question though...isn't this a retro site?

mine  (yeah, I'm a geek for DX)
Deore DX
Mavic 217 Sunsets
DT 2.0-1.5 Revolutions
DT red aluminum nipples

my current wheelset is fairly efficent..

Front
Original Cross Max
Airb tube
Kevlar IRC Mythos Semislick
circa 800gms

Rear
Syncros Hub
Black DT comps
DT-Swiss 4.1 Rim
Airb tube
Kevlar IRC Mythos Semi slick
Circa 1800gms :)

although one of my 'dream' wheelsets would be a pair of Spinergy X-rocs :)

They're just wheels, I don't get all dewey- eyed about them  - black Hope Pro 2 hubs, DT 2.0/1.8mm spokes and black Mavic 717 or 719 disc rims are all I need.

And Shimano or Salsa skewers - all the rest are crap by comparison.

You just described the wheels on my Prestige!

And I have to agree with Kaiser re: Disc Drive + 231-would have to be ceramic
