Post your dream wheelsetup!

I'm thinking of upgrading to a really light but still strong wheelset. What's your dream setup for a GT mtb?

Please specify:
- Hubs
- Rimms
- Spokes
- Nipples (if important)!?
- Inner tubes (if you have them)
- Outer tubes

I'll start:
- I'm still doubting whether to buy black Chris King hubset or Tune hubset.
- Ceramic rimms from Mavic.
- Black DT swiss spokes
- Nipples not so important, they just need to be good
- I have Michelin latex innertubes, they ride nice.
- Schalbe Fast Fred, Racing Ralph

I ride mostly XC, dry trails, no real downhill. I'm not too heavy (73 kg, 178m...).

Thanks!

I'm running a good xc set up on the single...

black American Classic hubs
black Mavic 517s
black dt swiss rev's
black short nip's
Maxxis 430s
Maxxis latex tubes?
Pedros rim tape (cloth)

Very light wheels and not stupid money. If money is no object then Phil Wood hubs would be top of my list.Chris Kings are far too much for my purse! but gooorjuss!!

For my singlespeed:
X517s or 717 these days
Hope Ti hubs (screw-on rear, with reverse dish by swapping the axle left to right), ultralight front
DT DB spokes (must try radial on the non-drive side)
Brass nipples because Alu ones stick and corrode for me.
Schwalbe tubes because they seem to have the best valve stems
Panaracer Fire XC Pro folding 1.8

Agree with TinTin apart from the Ti spokes.

Discs - then Hope Pro II, Mavic 717, DT threadlocked nipples and Evolution spokes. On my Pace 303

Rims brakes - Hope Ti-Glide/Fatso, Mavic 217s and Evolution Spokes. On the Dave Yates.

All other MTB wheels I've tried just feel wrong somehow.

Yeah as above really -

Hope Ti Glide hubs, Mavic 217 Sunset rims, DT Revolution spokes & alloy nipples the same colour as the hub flanges

How much are you looking to spend?

Last I heard Ti spokes need to use brass nipples so the weight saving is negligible and when considering the cost it seems a waste.

I can't comment on strength as I have not used them yet (and I know Sun rims are not the best ) but here is what I have just built.

Soul-Kozak Soul/Soul Edge 28/32 spoke hubs
Sun Ringle UFO 28/32 hole rims
DT Revolution 2.0/1.5/2.0 Spokes
Maxxis Maxxlite 310 tyres
Maxxis FlyWeight tubes (includes cloth rim tape)

Rims alone weigh 1267g so should be 2077g with tyres and tubes.

Pretty light really, PoshBikes quote £700 for 1300g wheels and these only cost me £160 using all new parts, admittedly with some factory seconds!!

I guess your original question was my dream wheels so if I had the money then I would have Tune hubs on ZTR rims!!

I'm trying to go light weight using old school methods:

Ritchey Vantage Pro rims
28h Mavic 501 Hubs [so lush]
CX ray bladed spokes
Campag alloy screw on freewheel or maillard corse

I'm stumped on old light skewers - will probably break the rules and put some ti ones in.

Are ti spokes strong enough?
