Work attire is pretty casual here so I don't tend to bother with cycle specific stuff - but I've never had a commute longer than ten miles so not really enough to build up a sweat. Waterproofs take care of inclement weather.

Never understood the problem with jeans - cycle in them all of the time.

If it's very hot I might take a spare T-shirt.

I have a few cycling specific items of clothing but I only use them when going out with better and keener friends.

It really shows how varied the definitions of "cycling" and "comfort" actually are.

Cycling should be fun.

Unfortunately some of the shapes that are passed off as bikes really dont help. All they do is make the introduction to cycling a chore, hard work with piss poor components and frame angles. These people probably also drive cars which then adds to the reputation that all cyclists must be nutters which in turn creates more tension when out on the roads. You then get the cyclists that dont help by jumping lights etc adding to the whole wonky maelstrom.

I being the casual cyclist have never worn lycra nor have I ever felt the need for it as other clothes have done the jobs required. Layers for cold weather, shorts for when its about 9c or above and so on. But, I can see where the idea of the 'lycra lout' has come from and if all 'cyclists' could just carry themselves a little better, we could change our perceived image.

But just dont get me started on gerbils...

Been bit quiet on this forum for a while so I'll ignite some controversy
- why do some cyclists feel the need to completely
Lycra up with skin tight everything even when travelling to work - then changing into normal clothes ?
Why the Lycra for commuting ?? Isn't that supposed to be race wear?
I notice most tend to be riding modern carbon bikes and are obnoxious pratts at crossings and such and complete A Holes to drivers.

I used to wear bike kit ( only shorts were lycra ) usually covered with training bottoms, my reason was it was 38 miles each way, & I tended to get a bit sweaty & didn't want to be shuffling around all day in sweaty kit. I hope& trust I was not a "pratt" anywhere on the ride, & I rode a 1965 Mercian,( King of Mercia) 6 speed Spring & Summer & 72" fixed Autumn & winter In 1978 I rode the bike to work every day I had to work 50 weeks /6 days a week
