Polishing Titanium Axis TT

cranked

Retro Newbie
I have recently purchased another DBR Axis TT which i`ve bought as a bit of a project over the summer.

Now from what i can make out, there were two frame finishes. Early models were grey(ish) colour (which is what i have) and newer models had more of a polished finish.

I have seen a few build ups on the forum and like the look of the polished frame. Is this easy to achieve with the current finish that i have? If so, what materials do i need to make a good job of it - i.e What grades of wet/dry do i need etc?

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers
Andy

try just buffing it up with autosol first to see if you get the results you want.

start from around 200-400 wet and dry, gradually going to finer grades, polishing in opposite directions each grade. You'll need to go up to 1500-2000 for a proper mirror shine, but 1000 or so is usually enough for the "polished frame" look

Hi Andy

I would say try a satin/brushed finish before you go to full polished ;) ....pm me if you'd like to 'chat' further :)

Have just used the scouring method. Satin/brushed finish is what I'm after and after doing a test area on the dropouts it seems to be the way forward!

Just wondering how many scouring pads I will go through and how long it will take...

At least it will look much better compared to the dull grey finish!

As I said, pm me if you'd like more help with this; I have other techniques that may be if use :)

Link here to frame I re-finished with a 'Garryflex' block, but I have since got something else to save a lot of effort :)
