What amuses me is we have guys driving around with a bunch of flags from their parent's country clipped on to the windows of their cars (when they're Canadian born, and have never actually been there) honking and yelling and making a huge fuss when it's not even the quarter finals yet. Makes me think I should put pirate flags on my car, and drive around honking and screaming when a cargo vessel get's captured by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

^^^^ It's a tribal thing I understand, an elation some people feel with competition where they just must belong to part of that competition by declaring their allegiance.
And my understanding just why football with all it's costs and problems is still permitted in the UK, it is contained tribalism without which well what will the tribal do without an outlet.
But one thing that always amazes, is when there is a match on, supporters don the colours perhaps understandably, but what really questions is the sale of replica football kit, I do wonder if the followers of this practice actually understand they are being charged rather a lot of money for the privilege of advertising the football club's sponsors i.e. paying to advertise entities that will not be rewarding you for your efforts.
The mind boggles.
