I have a set of these but not really sure how you tell front from rear. Bought them on here a while ago now and might be including them in a sale if they can be used on pace forks with the rear facing mounts. Can anyone advise how I can tell if I have front/rear versions? No discernable markings to indicate front or rear use aside from the brake blocks being fitted as they came to me.

If they are front/rear specific, can a front set be used on pace forks and if not can anything be swapped around? I have another single set but as no markings no idea if they are front or rears either.

Cheers

Front & rear brakes are the same.
Right arm has red helical gear, left arm has red.
Its the installation thats different on front & rear.

Thanks though not sure I'm following. If front and rear are the same they could both be used as rears then? If so, how?

Pretty sure they are front and rear specific and you would need rear ones on a fork that had the canti's at the back. Infact if you look here they are slightly different in design.
They should also have front or rear on the side if I remember correctly.

The fronts in that link are not pederson.

Re: pedersen se brakes, help please

Here's one of the SunTour licensed models that someone's helpfully disassembled and photographed:

What the Scott SE instructions call the "helical gear" is the black drum at bottom left. The two helical gears are mirror images of one another. The Scott arms aren't front-rear specific, and neither are the helical gears, but to make a rear brake work on the front you need to swap the helical gears from one side to the other, unless you mount the brake behind the fork.

That's true, but you can mount a (rear) SunTour SE brake on the front if you mount it behind the fork (as Thorn/SJS often have), or swap the helical gears left-for-right.
