I've been ruminating over fitting some clips and straps to the GT since it's my commuter. I've used spuds for years but straps would mean I can use 'normal' shoes to go to the shops an' stuff.

This is the key thing for me too - I run flats on my pub bike as I don't want to be hoobling to the bar wearing my cleated shoes. Tried straps once - fell over at lights

Clips and straps for me - couldn't get comfortable with spuds, and like the freedom of footwear clips and straps offer.

I just wish there were more clip capable pedals easily and cheaply available (Tioga Surefoot, and Shimano's non-spd pedals).
