Pedals?

Devout Dirtbag
I'm looking for some pedals for my not too retro Santa Cruz Superlight. I would usually use SPDs but my right knee is giving me gip so I think flat pedals would be the best option. Since pedals are such a dull piece of a bike and I've always used SPDs I've got no idea what to get. Every time I look all I find is heavy freeride things.
I've got a set of DMRs on another bike but find these aren't very grippy.
Anybody got any recommendations? Thank yous!

Unfortunately decent flat pedals are pretty weighty compared to spd's. Heres a pick of the ones I've used:

Best grip/shape - Easton cully / flatboy (cullys are nicest though) 570/600g
Middle weight middle grippyness > Shimano MX 30's (530g)
Low weight but still grippy > Wellgo MG1's (380g)

I don't get on with the DMR shape, its too small. For good grip you also need decent shoes as well. Currently I use a set of Orchid and a set of Path but it takes me ages to select a pair when one wears out.

I've had a bad right knee since I was run over by a bus, other knee is knackered from playing hockey. The only pedals I will ever use are speedplay as they don't clip you in like any others. They hold your shoe to the pedal but offer 20/30 degrees of float. They are the best mix of clipless security and flat pedal comfort. I now have a set on all 6 of my bikes and will not change!!

Christ those Easton Cullys are pricey! I thought flat pedals would be cheaper than spuds!

I have never tried speedplays. But use time atacs. Those leave a lot of room for movement as well. And will last for years to come. :D

To be honest I've found that the riding I'm doing on this bike means that I don't always want to be clipped in so really want flat pedals. I've heard good things about speedplay in the past so I might give them a go on a road bike in te future.

Once you try 'em you won't go back :D Although to be fair the flatboys are 95% as good.
