For the "trusted" angle, I'd say that the feedback forum on here is a pretty good guide. Clearly, this means people will have had to have traded a few times before but it's a question of the risks you are willing to take.

Do not use Paypal - you are throwing money away - use bank transfer.

Not sure if there's sarcasm there, so just in case . UK banks like to charge for international bank transfers. It costs me £18 with HSBC If I pay the sender and receiver fees. It's therefore often cheaper to pay with paypal, and offer to pay the sellers fees.

We should add a list here to see which UK banks have the lowest fees / charges for international transfers.

As for trust. I've spent thousands here buying stuff, and I think I have 2 feedback as I never sell anything (much to my wife's annoyance). People who've been here a while will know who they're prepared to use this approach with.

As for using a CC to fund paypal. The fees are higher but as a buyer I have recourse with my CC company should something go wrong, which is why I fund my PP account from a card rather than directly from a bank account.

Mainland European banks are a lot more enlightened. Your bank in the UK chooses whether there'll be a charge.

I haven't done an international bank transfer for a few months, but last time I had the charge from HSBC. I know they're (The BBA) talking about changing it, but not yet as far as I'm aware.

It could also be a different account with different Ts and Cs.

Yeh - I asked and it seems you can send payment within the system in the usual way.

yeah, i tried to be "sarcastic" triggered by the bold statement. international bank transfers usually are more expensive than paypal, at least up to certain amounts. bank transfers within the euro zone are free per law if you use BIC and IBAN, otherwise the bank may charge. bank transfers from e.g. germany to the US used to be pretty expensive and PP was cheaper up to around $1000. don't know if that changed in the past 2 years. and remember that sender's AND receiver's bank may charge so if your bank says incoming money is free it doesn't mean that the sender will be charged. also it needs to be specified by the sender who carries the charge - sender, receiver or split between both.
