Paypal Fees

Thanks for the tip, I have used the 'gift' on paypal today and someone bought something from me yesterday using 'gift' with no paypal fees there, I will be using this with trusted retrobike members on here from now on, wish I knew before as I would have save myself money on previous transactions here.

i see problems with that ,how do you tell which are to be trusted ?.
Members that have reached 100 posts?,retro guru status?

I've just bought some nice bits off Defiant over in Holland for 70 euros
He's reported back that of the 70 i paid, he received the full 70,so no deductions there
I put it through as 'gift'
Dont upset yourselves now, by working out how much youve so far paid in fees

was that a credit card payment? or from your PP acount and Defiant's account cannot accept credit card payments?

if it was CC payment that's good news!

No it was money from my paypal and bank account[linked]
I was never into CC's im a 'what i see is what i have' kind of guy
Dont know what his account accepts or not

I took it as that too,i was just trying to elevate my trustworthiness by bringing up the subject

Sorry if my message gave the wrong angle, there is alot of great members in retrobike, this year we had one member came here and started to sell some stuff, a few members here paid the guy but never recieved the items, the 'seller' disappear afterwards.

Dont know what his account accepts or not

just asked because payments from one PP acount to another were always free. only credit card payments incure the fees. and premium accounts, ie. those that can accept credit card payments, will always have the fee substracted from incoming money.

so it may not be the gift option that saves the fees...

Paypal has two advantages over bank transfers

1. Paying for things by credit cards which would give you more security if good times go bad. I would say that Paypal offers extra services too, but my experience is that they aren't great.

2. A secret fund that your partner doesn't know about. Combined with posting to work, it's a marriage saver.

Paypal buyer protection is atrocious. Really, really awful. There is no extra security with Paypal whatsoever. If things go wrong dealing with them is mindbending. Anyone that has tried to speak to them on the phone will probably agree. On the other hand, simply ringing your bank and signing a form will result in a chargeback - they reverse the disputed transaction and immediately give you your money back.

Do not use Paypal - you are throwing money away - use bank transfer.
