Paul Components Brakes: Worth the Hype?

I need a good set of cantis for a retro ALAN cyclo-cross build. Haver been looking at Paul Touring cantis. Got good reviews, anyone tried them out for real on the road/off?

Not tried the canti, but I do have the Mini Motos on my cross bike. I do lots of big hilly offroad rides with them and they are very powerful. A big chunk of money but they are super brakes - with the added benefit that they eliminate fork judder.

Thanks for that, that's worth knowing. I'm not going to bash this Alan CX bike, just longer distance gravel riding, but I would like to try a few laps of the local lake, which is definitely 'demanding ' in places! Good stoppers are a must for lightweight off road bikes ime.

Just picked up a pair of the Moto mini for cheap on Facebook. They do look the bomb!

I have a bike's worth of these.

They work great.

My only complaint would be that the spring adjuster nut and open spring are clearly designed around Californian conditions, not Scottish winter. The adjusters tarnished and pitted real quick and the springs tarnished and pick up crud too.

I've now fitted the spring adjusters and pads from a Dia Compe Fiesta pack as that was a much cheaper option than buying actual Paul replacements and being anodised they'll hopefully be a little more resistant to corrosion too.

If I spent that much on brakes, I'd expect them to be finished well enough not to corrode. 🙄
My avid arch- rivals still look good 20yo, and my hope calipers still look like new.

Perhaps some bike jewellery is only for good weather showing?😉

Yeah I was quite disappointed tbh.
