100% agree. Discerning 'bones' is not always easy, and may require knowledge and experience. In a relentlessly throwaway society, it's a lesson worth learning. Once one has been around a bit, (whether that means working on a subsistence level, or on projects in remote developing regions, for example), an appreciation for extending the use of things beyond their apparent life is garnered. Once one's eye is in, the world changes. Buildings, vehicles, foodstuffs, furnishings, relationships, languages, etc. all have intrinsic value as they stand, and potential for a further life if nurtured and considered. Even if it means a trip to the scrappy.Thanks for your comment and view on patina. I know there are many opinions and a line should be drawn as to whether something is salvageable or a risk with regards to safety. This little rat actually rides really well and is solid. I think most bikes deserve a second chance if they have have bones.
Here’s another shot of that seat, it is a good addition to the bike.
